Top 3 ideas for starting simple exercise
Amongst the THOUSANDS of different exercise patterns, routines & variations, when starting a new exercise journey or goal, we want to look for the best suited exercises for our fitness level and our body's ability to move (range of motion, flexibility etc).
So, here are 3 awesome easy to do moves to kick-start your exercise now!
Exercise 1 - the air squat
What is the air squat?
An air squat is a squat with no weight or resistance, making the exercise more difficult.
What I recommend you do is practise the air squat for the first 4-6 weeks when starting exercise.
This will get you and your body used to the movement for the squat, improve and increase the body's range of motion and flexibility, especially in the hips. And it will also give you the confidence to up the ante when it comes to adding resistance and variations!
Exercise 2 - knee push ups
What are knee push ups? A knee push up is a fantastic starter exercise for those wanting to increase upper body strength and improve shape.
They are simply a push-up or press-up done with the legs bent and knees touching the floor.
This allows less weight to be pushed up when at the bottom of the push-up position.
A good way to progress this exercise weekly is to move the knees further away each time. Eventually you will be able to lift the knees from the floor and perform a "proper push-up!".
Exercise 3 - straight-arm plank
What are straight arm planks?
These are almost identical to the conventional forearm planks but as the name states, these are done with the arms in a straight locked out position.
The reason I chose this as one of my favourite starter exercises is because it is very easy on the joints, doesn't take much movement to get into the position and it is a safe exercise to start off with.
Good ways to progress the straight arm plank would be to increase holding time each week.
I recommend starting at around 15 seconds and add 5 seconds on each week. Eventually you will surprise yourself and reach the minute plank goal.
Good luck everyone!
