3 tips to stay healthy this summer
Hey everyone! The sun is here and summer is quickly approaching.
With that said, we all know the dangers that come with an increase in temperature, especially if we are exposed to direct sunlight for large portions of our day.
Keeping healthy in hot weather is a must, and there are certain things you need to bear in mind at this time of year.
Here are 3 of my tips to stay healthy and safe during the hot British summer!
Tip number 1 - stay hydrated
This one for me is the most important.
As our body temperature increases we tend to sweat more. When we sweat, we lose significant amounts of water from our body, causing us to become dehydrated if this water isn't put back into our bodies.
The water in our body also contain minerals that are lost during sweat.
My advice to combat dehydration this summer would be to drink half a pint of water every 60-90 minutes.
You don't want to drink too much too fast as this can have an adverse effect on our bodies.
Tip number 2 - consume more fruit
This is a great way to not only keep the body's vitamin and mineral count up as we sweat (because we lose these nutrients in sweat as I mentioned above), it also keeps us hydrated because the majority of the fruits we consume are made up of water.
So yes, it's a double win on this one!!
Tip number 3 - don't stay in the sun for too long at one time
Very very important to remember this one, not only will it raise the body's temperature, but also it can cause sun stroke.
This is a very dangerous reaction to the body being exposed to direct sunlight for too long.
It can cause very bad illness with symptoms including: lethargy, headaches/migraines, sore eyes, sunburn and much more.
Limit yourself to 45-60 mins of direct sunlight at one time then cool down for 20-30 mins to allow the body to cool down.
This can be a swim in an inside pool, a cold shower or a lie down out of the sun.
I hope these tips have been useful and you have enjoyed the blog - have a great summer everyone and be safe in the heat!
